What We Do

Monthly Programs & Special Events

Every month we fill our meeting with quilting demonstrations and/or guest speakers. In addition, we also schedule special events that occur outside of our regular meetings.  To view our current list of programs and special events, check out our calendar!

At each meeting, members are encouraged to participate in our Show & Tell. Members are able to show off a project they are working on or have finished. Members also show projects submitted to shows that judge their works. Many members are award winning quilters with many accolades to their credit. So join us each month for Show & Tell and see the wonderful projects members are making!

Guild meetings will be cancelled for Bad Weather when Boone County Schools are closed. If you are unsure and need to contact someone, please contact Cabin Arts until 6:00 P.M, or check our Facebook page.

Sit -&- Sews !!!   (Join US!!)

Every month we have opportunities to get away from our daily lives and spend time doing what we love!  QUILTING!!   (Or whatever your passion… crocheting, knitting, applique, etc.)   An ironing and cutting station will be available, so just bring your project and other supplies.  Many people bring their sewing machine, but some just bring hand-work.

In general we have one Weekday Sit -&- Sew and one Saturday Sit -&- Sew each month.  Usually they are the second Thursday and the fourth Saturdays of the month at the Burlington and Union Libraries, respectively.  ANYONE is welcome to join us for a day of fellowship and fun.  Check the newsletter (or one of our members) for dates and times.

The History of National Quilting Day:

In 1989, the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society organized a “Quilters’ Day Out” on the third Saturday of March to celebrate the rich tradition of quilt making in Kentucky. In 1991, National Quilting Association officers were so enthused with the concept and success of “Quilters’ Day Out” that they voted to take it to a national level.

The first National Quilting Day was observed in 1992 and since then it has grown into a global celebration for all quilt-makers and quilt lovers. Helen Storbeck, one of the founders of National Quilting Day, wrote in The Quilting Quarterly, “Groups of quilters were encouraged to hold special events, publishers and shop owners were invited to sponsor promotions especially for quilters and it quickly became a grassroots endeavor with quilters in every part of the country participating. In the first year of National Quilting Day, quilters in other countries asked to participate. They were welcomed with open arms. As our feelings of a community network has evolved to include a world community, it is only appropriate that quilters and quilt lovers everywhere united to give recognition to the special art form.”

This years show was on March 17,2018 and was held at the Boone County Extension Building from 9 to 3. Lunch and snacks available for sale with free admission and parking. There were beautiful quilt displays and many other activities including a special guest Sue Nichols.

In the Community…

Our 2017 Community Project was for the Brighton Women’s Recovery Center in Northern Kentucky.  44 quilts were made by Stringtown Members, a total of 52 quilts were donated.

For 2016, we completed 2 Community Services Projects.   It is important to our guild to give back to the community. We made over 75 quilts for A.L.S. Association to help with comforting quilts for their patients. and we made over 75  baby blankets for CARE NET services of NKY that will be offered as an additional reward/incentive for completion of parenting classes.
